How we choose

Every practice in this index is assessed against the same criteria. Where a business does not meet them, it is not listed. Where a listed business is no longer the right fit for a category, it is removed at the annual review.

The criteria

  1. An established, verifiable business with a physical presence in Western Australia.
  2. Evidence of completed work at the premium end of its category, rather than entry-level or volume operations.
  3. Award recognition, published projects, or a documented professional record that can be independently checked.
  4. A portfolio that can be assessed publicly.
  5. Continued relevance, confirmed at annual review.

What we publish

Each listing states what the practice does, the specific recognition it holds, and the kind of project it suits. Where a practice is not the right appointment for a particular brief, we say so. That guidance is about fit, not quality: a studio that is wrong for a large-format new build may be exactly right for a heritage addition.

Sources

Award records are taken from the awarding bodies. Business details are taken from each practice's own published material. Where we could not verify a claim, it is not published.
